वसुदेव सुतं देवं ॥ कंसचाणुर मर्दनम ॥
देवकी परमानन्दं ॥ कॄष्णं वन्दे जगदगुरु ॥
This is the occasion on which we all celebrate the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar (incarnation) of Lord Vishnu. On this auspicious occasion, temples and homes are beautifully decorated. Krishna Janm (birth) is celebrated at midnight on Krishna Paksha Ashtami (refer to the Indian calendar for this terminology). Celebrations take the form of Dahi Handi (my most beloved event in this celebration) (especially in Maharashtra!!)
