This Privacy Policy explains how Abhishek Deshpande (“I”, “me”, “my”) collects, uses, and protects information when you visit whoisabhi.com, use any of its tools, or install the QR Code Reader browser extension.

2. What Data Is Collected and Why
A. Website Analytics
This website uses two analytics tools to understand how visitors use the site:
Google Analytics (Google LLC)
Collects anonymised data including pages visited, time on site, device type, browser, and approximate location (country/city level). Data is processed by Google on servers that may be outside your country.
Matomo Analytics (self-hosted)
Collects similar usage data to Google Analytics but is hosted on my own server — your data does not leave my infrastructure. IP addresses are anonymised before storage.

What I do NOT do with analytics data: I do not sell it, share it with advertisers, or use it to personally identify you.
B. Comments
If you leave a comment on this site, I collect:
- Your name, email address, and website (if provided)
- Your IP address and browser user agent (for spam detection)
- The content of your comment
Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so follow-up comments can be recognised automatically. You may request deletion at any time — see Section 5.
Your email address may be hashed and sent to Gravatar to display a profile picture if you use that service.
C. Contact Forms and Email
If you contact me via a form or email, I retain your name, email address, and message content only to respond to your enquiry. I do not add you to any mailing list without explicit consent.
D. Cookies
This website uses cookies for the following purposes:
Strictly necessary cookies
- Session cookies set by WordPress for logged-in users and temporary form state. These expire when you close your browser or within 1–2 days.
Analytics cookies
- Google Analytics sets cookies (_ga, _gid, _gat) to distinguish users and throttle requests. These last between 24 hours and 2 years.
- Matomo sets a cookie (_pk_id, _pk_ses) to recognise returning visitors. _pk_id lasts 13 months; _pk_ses lasts 30 minutes.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling analytics cookies will not affect your ability to use this website.
E. Embedded Content
Articles on this site may include embedded content (videos, images, social posts). Embedded content behaves as if you visited the third-party website directly — those sites may collect data, set cookies, and track your interaction with the embedded content.
3. QR Code Reader — Browser Extension
The QR Code Reader extension is available for Chrome and Firefox.
Data collected: None.
The Extension does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data.
How it works:
- When you right-click an image and select “Read QR Code”, the Extension fetches that image within your browser and decodes it locally on your device.
- All processing uses a bundled JavaScript library (jsQR). No image data, decoded QR values, or any other information is ever sent to any server.
- The Extension has no backend, no database, and no analytics.
Why each permission is needed:
host_permissions \ — To fetch images from any website, bypassing browser CORS restrictions that would otherwise block reading cross-origin image pixels.
contextMenus — To add “Read QR Code” to the right-click menu on images.
scripting — To display the decoded QR result as an overlay on the current page.
clipboardWrite — To copy decoded values (URLs, passwords, contact details) to your clipboard when you click Copy.
4. How Long Data Is Retained

5. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of personal data I hold about you
- Correction — ask me to correct inaccurate data
- Deletion — ask me to delete your personal data
- Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format

If you are in the European Union or UK, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
6. Data Security
I take reasonable technical precautions to protect data — including HTTPS encryption for all traffic, regular software updates, and limited access to server infrastructure. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure; I cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Third-Party Links
This website may contain links to external sites. I am not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to read their policies.
8. Children’s Privacy
This website and the QR Code Reader extension are not directed at children under 13. I do not knowingly collect data from children.
9. Changes to This Policy
I may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of the website or extension after changes are posted constitutes acceptance.
