We shouldn’t need a phone to read a QR code — we build QR codes on desktops.
There are already QR reader extensions on the Chrome Web Store. We tried them.
Here’s how they work:
You click the extension icon, a panel opens, and you upload an image file. So you first save the image to your desktop, then open the extension, then upload it. That’s three extra steps just to read a QR code you can already see on your screen.
One of them scans “the page” — but only finds the first QR code, so if you want a specific one, you’re back to downloading it anyway.
Another is planning cloud sync and user accounts. For a QR reader. Which means your scanned content — Wi-Fi passwords, payment QR codes, contacts — could leave your device.
None of them let you just right-click the image you’re already looking at.
That’s what I built: a Chrome extension — QR Code Reader for Chrome. Right-click any image with a QR code. Decode the QR code. Done.
No phone. No uploads. No account. Fully local. Just a right-click.
